Bonner follows the release of his creative nonfiction memoir book with a win in the Conclave’s Alabama Literary Competition (AlaLitCom).

Bonner won the nonfiction award for his short story “Seeking Asylum (http://www.cdbonner.net/seeking-asylum/),” a tale about a childhood visit to a mental institution that he somehow presents both seriously and lightheartedly.

Bonner was one of eight winners in the Nonfiction category of the competition. This year, the Conclave opened the contest to entrants nationwide, making the competition more challenging. There were winners from Connecticut to California as well as within the state.

Established in 1923, The Conclave (http://www.alabamawritersconclave.org/history.html) is the oldest continuously operating writers' organization in the U.S.. Alabama’s Poet Laureate Andrew Glaze, a colleague of Robert Frost, chairs it. Poet Laureate Emeritus Sue Brannan Walker led the conference.

“Seeking Asylum” is a yet unpublished follow-on story to “Keeping Me in Stitches” that was included in Bonner's book I Talk Slower Than I Think, a collection of 52 creative nonfiction Southern coming of age tales. Most of the stories are humorous, but as with life, a few tragedies are included.

Bonner's book was accepted into the Auburn University Library's permanent Alabama Collection and by several other libraries.
