Girl hiding from Boston Mob survives, helps others: The Girl With Caterpillar Eyebrows book launch

A True Story of Survival, Resilience, & Triumph by Business Owner, Lisa Ditchkoff

AUBURN, Ala. - Aug. 3, 2013 - PRLog -- Escaping the South Boston Irish Mafia, living in hiding, and enduring emotional, sexual, and physical abuse are just a few of the shocking topics described in The Girl with the Caterpillar Eyebrows.

Opelika, AL – 3 August 2013 – Lisa Ditchkoff released her self-published memoir while the Whitey Bulger trial is underway.  On August 1, 2013, she spoke publicly for the first time about her life at Event Center Downtown, Opelika, Alabama.

Ditchkoff explains her life in hiding for 27 years, as well as her ties to the Irish Boston Mafia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitey_Bulger) in "Southie."  She grew up in fear of her father, an alleged "mobster" and legendary Boston Garden record-holding fastest knockout boxer.

Memories of Lisa’s father were shadowy ones, but she remembered him as generous in his love toward her. Her only memory was of her father saying, "You’re so beautiful," just before her mother escaped during the middle of the night in a telephone truck during Boston’s record snowfall in 1978. Lisa also remembers hearing the name, “Whitey Bulger.”

She grew up quickly, in more ways than one. In addition to searching for love becoming a mother at a very young age, she also slipped through the cracks in regard to education and other things. She experienced sexual, emotional, and physical abuse which nearly took her life.

Then at her age of 30, she found her father in South Boston, still living only a few miles from where he was born. Having recently spent three years in federal prison, he was trying to live a quiet life under the radar.

The Girl with the Caterpillar Eyebrows (http://www.amazon.com/The-Girl-Caterpillar-Eyebrows-Resil...) is more than just a compilation of heartbreaking tragedies, lessons learned, and words of encouragement to others facing extraordinary obstacles.  It’s also a story of never giving up hope no matter how difficult any situation including the domino effect on business failures and difficulties due to the 2008 economic downturn and since.

"Lisa is a modern heroine of sorts . . . flawed yet resilient, and thereby heroic. She is amazingly candid and revealing as she shares each vignette. Her style communicates clearly while being sensitive to her characters. She obviously trusts her readers, allowing them into the intimate corners of her heart," Stretch Dunn, Colonel (USA Ret).

"Lisa’s book is intriguing, to say the least. When faced with challenging situations throughout her life, she didn’t just survive; she thrived.  It takes a strong person to keep on keeping on. I’m proud of her," Gary Fuller, Mayor, City of Opelika, AL.
