TORONTO - July 15, 2013 - PRLog -- Sherway Gardens’ (Hwy 427 & the QEW) current Gallery in the Garden exhibit entitled Timeless Stories presents a series of oil paintings by Toronto artist Rita-Anne Piquet depicting the architecture within the landscape of Montreal and Pennsylvania. The exhibit is on display until August 17 in the corridor at door 3. For more information call 416-621-1070 or visit www.sherwaygardens.ca.

Many of the paintings featured in Timeless Stories depict Montreal and were inspired by Rita-Anne’s wanderings in Montreal.

“The place of my mother’s early years, Montreal has always had a special spot in my heart,” states Rita-Anne.   “As a child and teen, I visited regularly with my family.  Now I am returning to capture the love of the city in my art.

Tiny balconies atop city residences, the beautiful, sophisticated colours of the buildings, lives lived on multiple levels and, of course, the winding stairs and cafes, all serve to form the intricate jigsaw of the city.”

Rita-Anne looks to places that are off the beaten track to find her inspiration for her paintings, whether in Toronto or when she is travelling.

“Evolving out of this work is a renewed look at my own city of Toronto,” adds Rita-Anne.  “Now I am turning my gaze to more familiar locales, and seeking out the places that lie hidden away from the larger city I usually see.”

Last autumn, she visited rural Pennsylvania and has started to portray these scenes as well, maintaining her interest in architecture within the landscape.

“Art is the vehicle to explore and know my world, in its intimate moments and places,” says Rita-Anne.  “The paintings that I create are personal studies, yet they tell timeless stories.”

Rita-Anne Piquet has exhibited widely, in solo and group exhibitions. She is an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists and a member of the Botanical Artists of Canada.   Rita-Anne was awarded the Jurors’ Choice Award for Oil Painting at the 2012 Annual Juried Exhibition of the Botanical Artists of Canada, 3rd prize in the representational category at the Juried Exhibition of the Society of Canadian Artists and 1st prize, the HSBC Award of Excellence, at Plein Air Canada’s Oakville, Ontario exhibit.  In 2004, Rita-Anne was Artist-in-Residence at the Masterworks Foundation of Bermuda.  She is a recipient of grants from both the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts.
