Follow on Google News | RateTea Deletes and Re-Creates Facebook Presence, Reflecting Brand Name Change and .com DomainRateTea deleted and re-created their Facebook page, which serves as an official social media presence for the site. The new page reflects the brand name change to RateTea associated with the acquisition of the RateTea.com domain.
By: RateTea / Merit Exchange LLC The old page which had achieved a large audience in spite of not having been actively maintained for some time, bore the old brand name of the site, RateTea.net. Brand name change, reflecting domain acquisition Upon acquiring the .com domain name in December of 2011, RateTea changed their official branding from the old domain to the new, briefer name RateTea. The old page, unfortunately, had too high a number of likes to qualify for Facebook's feature for renaming pages. Facebook uncooperative and incommunicative Over a period of several months, Facebook showed an unwavering inflexibility at changing the name, in spite of a change in branding and trademarks owned by RateTea / Merit Exchange LLC. Several requests to change the name through different avenues and communication channels were ignored or denied, and Facebook provided no useful feedback and demonstrated no willingness to resolve the problem. After some time, the RateTea team decided to delete and re-create the page so as to maintain a professional image consistent with their new branding, at the cost of having to rebuild the audience for the page. This story can serve as a cautionary tale for companies who may wish to consider a name change in the future, a warning against investing too many resources into building an audience for a Facebook page. The new page features high-quality and selective posts Reflecting the focus and philosophy of the site on high-quality, accurate information, RateTea has chosen to post sparsely and limit the quality of their posts to accurate, informative material, and thought-provoking questions on the topics of tea and tea culture.
