On Thursday, May, 23, Malcolm Elavia, president of Fire, Inc. welcomed a team of over forty people to Daniels, WV. The group consisted of business managers and executives from the North and Southeast Regions. The purpose of the conference was to build relationships amongst colleagues from afar and to learn how to successfully operate and grow a business.

Thursday, colleagues arriving throughout the day and evening, giving the early arrivals, time to tour The Resort at Glade Springs and all of its accommodations. That evening everybody met for a cocktail hour and appetizers at the Bunkers Sports Bar on the Resort. After a brief meet-and-greet, everybody retired for the evening.

Friday morning, the group congregated for a buffet style breakfast at The Rotunda before some of the meeting began. The symposium continued into early afternoon with four different guest speakers. Some focused on past experience and how to overcome them, while others focused on brainstorming and networking in smaller groups. All and all the symposium was a success making it an informative morning.

After lunch, the group had hours of leisure time to explore the many activities, The Resort at Glade Springs had to offer. Between golfing, basketball, fishing, massages and an indoor pool everybody had time to relax in their own way. Later that evening, everybody reconvened at the Glade Springs bowling alley for pizza and a little friendly competition. While bowing a select few decided to raise money with 25/75 raffle for the distressed family effected by the Oklahoma tornadoes. The winner of the raffle was gracious enough to donate his portion back making the grand total $785.

On Saturday, the team had a grab and go breakfast before jumping on a charter bus at 8:30 a.m. headed to Adventures on the Gorge in Lansing, WV for whitewater rafting. After arriving to Adventures on the Gorge everybody was fitted for whitewater rafting essentials, wetsuits, life jackets, paddles and helmets. The crew then loaded onto a school bus for a beautiful and scenic ride to the Upper New River. Once they arrived, the team of 40 were split into eight groups of five to become whitewater rafting teams of the day.

After some instructions from the rafting guides the teams hauled their rafts to the river for the beginning of an adventure down the Upper and Lower New River. The first leg of the trip, the Upper New River was the beginner’s course with a few class II and III. After the two and half hour warm-up the exhausted group stopped for a riverside lunch helping them regain some much needed energy before entering the more exciting rapids.  The Lower New River, was the second leg of the trip and is considered one of the top rated rafting experiences in North America consisting of mostly class VI and V rapids.  The entire group made it through the lower new river successfully without anybody getting thrown into the rapids.   The group was picked up at 5:00 P.M. from the river where they returned to the Adventure on the Gorge for a buffet style dinner.

After the long and exciting week, the group headed back to The Resort to mingle for the rest of the evening before they headed back to their original destination on Monday.
