Follow on Google News | £1 Million Scheme to Expand SchoolAn investment of £1 million will help to pay for a series of improvements at Rossett School in the year it marks its 40th anniversary.
By: Montpellier Media They will be needed to cope with the growing numbers of pupils at the school. From September, there will be two extra classes in Year 7 after a rise in the number of children applying to Rossett. Headteacher Pat Hunter said: “We were delighted to find out the Academies Trust had accepted our bid for funding for the new classrooms. “Given that the school is oversubscribed, they will provide essential accommodation for the pupils who are joining us in September. There’s also a growing demand for places in the sixth form, so extra space is going to be increasingly important over the next few years.” A firm of architects has been appointed for the building project and the work, which is expected to take four months, is due to begin before the summer holidays. Meanwhile, the school’s old boiler will be replaced with a modern, more efficient model at a cost of £200,000. “The boiler is the same one which was installed when the school was originally built,” said Mrs Hunter. “The fact that we’re celebrating our 40th anniversary this year is an indication of just how long it has served us for!” On top of the funding from the Academies Trust, the school has just been improved with investments in new windows for the front of the building and the main hall, a new ceiling for one of the main corridors, new lighting and new internal doors on the ground floor. Future plans include installing solar panels to improve Rossett’s carbon footprint and reduce its energy bills. Mrs Hunter added: “It’s great to be able to mark our 40th anniversary with such a significant grant and so many great improvements being made. “As well as providing extra space and a better environment for our current pupils, these improvements will ensure we can look after future generations for the next 40 years and beyond.” End
