John Ross Palmer Presents Artwork to Writers in the Schools

Artist John Ross Palmer was inspired during April, National Poetry Month, to gift his 2013 Charity of the Year, Writers in the Schools, an original piece of artwork inspired by his paternal great-grandmother's historic and landmark poetry book.

HOUSTON - April 8, 2013 - PRLog -- On the morning of April 8, 2013, Artist John Ross Palmer had the honor of presenting an original painting to the team at Writers in the Schools, his business' 2013 Charity of the Year. The piece, Birdie, was inspired by an historic poetry book, Who Ever Heard a Birdie Cry?, written by Palmer's paternal great-grandmother, Lottie Catherine Robinett. The highly-anticipated presentation at the WITS Main Office in the Montrose neighborhood of Houston, Texas had the perfect timing--coinciding with April's National Poetry Month and an art enticement just days in advance of Palmer's unveiling of a new art series honoring WITS at his Historic Heights Art Gallery & Studio on Saturday, April 13, 2013. Birdie will remain on permanent, public display in the Writers in the Schools Main Conference Room which regularly hosts executives for Board of Director's meetings. It is the mission of Writers in the Schools to engage children in the pleasure and power of reading and writing.

Kate Rybka Brennan, Development Director at Writers in the Schools, said of Palmer's artwork and presentation, "We are so honored to have this creative, beautiful and time-honored piece of artwork given to us by John. We are beyond-grateful for his support this year and really look forward to the Kick-Off Party he's hosting at his art gallery this weekend!" Artist John Ross Palmer agrees, "WITS is an inspiring organization to say the least...and their support of writing and National Poetry Month was the impetus that made me honor my great-grandmother's literary legacy in an orginal gift of art."

The John Palmer Art Gallery & Studio's unveiling honoring WITS is on Saturday, April 13th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 1218 Heights Blvd., Houston, TX 77008. This public event will donate a portion of proceeds to WITS, a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
