ICS Security Lab Enters Phase One

The ICS-ISAC & its Members are creating a lab for critical infrastructure cybersecurity research, demonstration & education providing a shared resource to develop solutions to improve resiliency of interdependent systems underpinning modern society.

ARLINGTON, Va. - April 3, 2013 - PRLog -- The ICS-ISAC is working with key Members to create an ICS Security Lab as a shared asset for research, demonstration and education about secure Industrial Control Systems.  Physically hosted in Livermore, CA by Robot Garden the Lab is now in Phase One of procuring equipment and establishing the virtual capabilities that Members can have access to.

The ICS Security Lab will be used by participants as a platform to implement examples of industrial systems which can defend against cyber attack. “There is a need for a space where reference architectures can be demonstrated,” said ICS-ISAC Chair Chris Blask. “Industry best practices and innovative approaches provide a range of repeatable solutions for facility operators and integrators to employ in their efforts to build more survivable infrastructures. This lab will provide an area for interested parties to implement, demonstrate and educate others about these solutions.”

“Databracket supports the efforts of ICS-ISAC and its members to facilitate knowledge sharing between operators of critical infrastructure” said Zach Dexter, Co-founder of Databracket, LLC, a security developer. “We are particularly excited to support the new ICS-ISAC lab, which will help increase threat awareness and improve threat detection for this infrastructure.”

“Robot Garden was created to provide a community workspace where people can collaborate on technology projects,” said Daniel Casner, one of the founders of Robot Garden and a Senior Member of Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories. “With the fusion of computers and physical infrastructure accelerating we see this as an opportunity to use our abilities for the greater good. We all benefit by making our world a safer place.”

The lab will also play a part in efforts by the ICS-ISAC and its Members to create reference architectures for realtime knowledge sharing among infrastructure facilities. These realtime sharing systems provide the backbone for the self-healing infrastructure referenced in the recent State of the Union address and ongoing public/private development efforts.

If you are interested in participating in this activity or have equipment that would be of benefit to this endeavor please send a note to icslab@ics-isac.org

There is also a LinkedIn group for collaboration at   http://www.linkedin.com/groups?home=&gid=4932821&trk=anet_ug_hm&goback=%2Emyg

About ICS-ISAC

The Industrial Control System Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ICS-ISAC) exists to bring together the private sector for the purpose of sharing knowledge about risks, threats and best practices in our shared critical infrastructure. The Center was created to provide the community a common platform where this exchange can be performed in an environment best suited to the needs of all involved parties.

A Member driven organization, the ICS-ISAC is supported by valued industry partners including City of Columbus, Ohio, CSC,DoT Volpe Center, Prime Controls, Exelon, SAIC, Management Analytics, Texas PUC, GDS Transnational and Utilisec.

Interested researchers and organizations can join the ICS-ISAC at http://ics-isac.org
