An IDP does not replace a government issued driver license, but is its official translation. One must carry and show both documents when driving in another country. To apply for IDL a Driver must have Valid Driving License issued by Competent Authorities of his/her Home Country. He/she must be 18 years of age or above and there is no upper age limit for use of IDL. It also needs standard passport style photographs. One can only get IDP in the country that issued your license and a Person should apply it for 3 months in prior to date of travel. It is valid for 12 months from date issued. An IDP is never valid in its country of issue. A person may be not able to legally drive in other countries without an IDP.
