Saturday, June 8, 2013

January 28, 2013  – Kalamazoo, Michigan: The  second annual Kalamazoo Mud Run (https://www.snapregistration.com/kzoomudrun/index.php?option=com_content&view=featured&Itemid=101) is an exciting  fitness event with various new elements to offer participants on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Kalamazoo Community Church, located at 2435 N. 26th, Kalamazoo, MI 49048.

New highlights for 2013

·        A single loop 5K course

·        Up to 20 unique obstacles

·        Unlimited team size for the team run

·        More awards for fund-raising and costumes

·        Participant fund raising opportunity

·        If one mud run isn't enough for you, get two mud runs for one low price.  The KALAMAZOO MUD RUN + The MUDDY PATRIOT = The MUDDY DOUBLE

The Kalamazoo Mud Run consists of a 5K course for solo competitive, team competitive, solo fun runners (age 12 and up).  There will also be a shorter Kids Mud Run for kids 6-12 years old. The trail-run style course is a 5K course including obstacles and many opportunities to get wet and muddy.  Participants can expect to be challenged with obstacles such as hills, wall climbs, mud crawls, mud trenches and lots of water.

In 2012, Kalamazoo Community Church (http://www.kalamazoocommunitychurch.com/) (KCC) came up with the idea of converting the trails that wind through the 44 wooded acres surrounding the church into a challenging mud and obstacle course.  The event is part of the church’s ongoing mission supporting sustainable well drilling operations in Kampala, Uganda and a new local mission supporting the mobile food mission of Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes (http://www.kzoolf.org/).  Kalamazoo Community Church is partnering with The Bridge (http://www.thebridgeportage.org/) in Portage and their Operation Starfish (http://www.thebridgeportage.org/).

“Last year was great! We had fun while raising the funds necessary to put an automated well and water distribution system in the heart of Uganda! People in that village will now have access to fresh, clean water!” As we accomplished this, however, it became obvious that there was a much greater need” said Dave Johnson, Senior Pastor of KCC. “There are many more villages--in Uganda, Kenya and elsewhere--that need clean water! In partnership with Operation Starfish, we will support the effort to dig 50 new wells in 50 villages in the next 5 years! It's a huge task, but one that is absolutely necessary! We don't only want an international impact, but also to make an impact on a local scale. Therefore, a portion of the overall funds raised this year will go toward a local partnership with Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes. In this way, your registration fees and donations will make a positive impact across the world, and in our local community.”

Kalamazoo Community Church will hold a shoe drive to distribute shoes to those in need. In 2012, over 1,400 pairs of shoes were collected, cleaned and donated. A shoe collection will start a few weeks before the Kalamazoo Mud Run through June 8. Kalamazoo Mud Run participants are encouraged to leave their muddy shoes to be cleaned and donated.
