Anti-Valentine’s Day with the BCAE

Jan. 7, 2013 - PRLog -- Valentine’s Day is a lovely holiday for those who have someone special to share it with, but for those who aren’t part of a pair or who maintain a firm anti-Valentine’s Day stance on principle, the options for mid-February activities can seem limited. This year the Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE), located in Boston, MA, is playing cupid for students of any relationship status and offering five great Valentine’s-themed classes. Whether looking for friendship or something more, classmates are sure to have at least one thing in common – an interest in cooking delicious food! And a note for the gentlemen: the population of BCAE classes is primarily women, so the odds are in your favor at these up close and personal, two to three hour, hands-on cooking classes.

Providing an escape from the overload of holiday spirit, the “Cupid is Stupid: Devilish Delectables” class on Monday, February 11th, 2013 from 6:00PM to 9:00PM targets the taste buds rather than the heart. From Devil's Food cakes to "No Monkey Business Mushrooms," students will enjoy anti-romance themed eats as they commiserate with others who are over the lovey-dovey. The menu includes smelly snacks with garlic, bleu cheese and onions, as well as extra hoppy beer to help wash all the troubles away! This class is $50 for nonmembers/ $43 for members/ $15 for materials.

For those looking to embrace the romantic mood of Valentine’s Day, the following classes on and around February 14th are sure to inspire some love:

A LOVE-ly Valentines Brunch
Learn a special menu for that special someone! Raspberry Bellinis, Honey Caramelized Grapefruit Halves, Baby Spinach Salad with Warm Maple-Bacon Vinaigrette, Individual Soufflés and Salted Caramel Filled Chocolate Doughnuts are tempting treats to indulge in on the most romantic day of the year.

Inter-courses: An Aphrodisiac Dinner
Students will explore Aphrodite's delights using ancient and modern aphrodisiac ingredients to awaken their inner foodie libido. A six course sampling menu will include delights such as figs, oysters, pomegranate, arugula, ginger, avocado, truffles, mustards, chocolates and wines will be an amorous treat to enjoy with a partner or an adventurous way make a new Valentine acquaintance.

J'adore Fromage: Wine & Cheese Pairing
Any day is a good day for wine and cheese, but Valentine's Day truly calls for special pairings. In this class cheese expert Adam Centamore of Formaggio Kitchen in Cambridge, MA will present students with enchanting combinations of cheeses, condiments and wines sure to bring out the passionate foodie in everyone.

Love with No Leftovers: A Valentine’s Day Dinner with Rodney Murillo
At this installment of the BCAE Celebrity Chef series, students will learn to create an intimate dinner experience at home while enjoying excellent food and wine under the guidance of Davio’s master Chef Rodney Murillo. Students can come alone and surprise someone with the skills they garner or bring someone special and enjoy the evening together.
