Heywood Hospital Hosts China's Vice Minister of Science and Technology

Dec. 27, 2012 - PRLog -- Gardner, MA –  Heywood Hospital opened its doors and hosted a visit from China's Vice Minister of Science and Technology last month.

Kevin Zhang, MD, PhD and Vice President of Clinical Services Rose Kavalchuck welcomed Wang Weizhong, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology to the Heywood Hospital Campus last month. Weizhong is also currently a New World Senior Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School’s Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation. During his visit, the Vice Minister toured the Hospital's campus including the ICU, Laboratory, Watkins 1 and Watkins 2, and the Labor and Delivery Unit.

A long-time friend of Dr. Zhang, Vice Minister Weizhong focuses on rural healthcare as part of his position at China’s Science and Technology Ministry. He found the new technology at Heywood Hospital of particular interest, including our new MRI Center, CT technology, fetal monitoring and eICU program in conjunction with UMass Medical Center in Worcester. Through the research and application of new technologies such as these, Vice Minister Weizhong hopes to improve the healthcare services available to residents of rural areas in China.

According to Dr. Zhang, Vice Minister Weizhong was very impressed, not only with the technology he found here in a rural setting at Heywood Hospital, but also with the knowledge and helpfulness of staff with which he came in contact.
