By: Bridget O'Brien PR has just returned from a very fruitful visit to Haiti where he has set in motion a plan that has been on the drawing board for quite some time. HADEM is a non profit organization a 501 c not-for-profit organization that was founded by a group of Haitian-born professionals who are committed to the rebuilding of Haiti and reestablishing a foundation for economic and professional growth within its communities. During the group's last trip to Haiti, several meeting were held by HADEM's members and Key Haitian government officials which outlined the problems confronting Haiti. Which are not unusual for a developing countries persistent poverty and high unemployment. The 2 entities agreed that one of the ways this island nation plans to deal with these problems is quite unique: providing to every resident full, free, unfettered access to knowledge through technology. It's an innovative vision of the role HADEM can play in helping people turn their lives around. Based on the report recently released, only 5% of the country of Haiti have access to computers. HADEM plans to open ten computer technology centers within one year. The first one is scheduled to be opened in February 2013 in Cabaret, and continuing to every corner in HAITI within three to five years. The challenge HADEM is facing is lack of infrastructure in the rural areas. The goal is to ensure that all people, particularly those who are the poorest, most marginalized members of society are able to benefit from the high-tech tools that are often only available to a privileged few. So far agreement has reached with several private schools to provide access to their facilities to set up the centers. The Haitian government understands that there is no single solution to the challenges its people face. It is not enough simply to place the tools of technology within people's reach. They must also be given other supports and services. HADEM greatly needs donations of money as well as computers.
