PCG Participates In Juvenile Diabetes Research Walk

Nov. 28, 2012 - PRLog -- The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is the largest charitable supporter of Type 1 Diabetes research and has awarded more than $1.6 million to research since 1970. The Mid Jersey Chapter of JDRF held their annual “Walk to Cure Diabetes” event on October 21, 2012. The sun was shining and the weather was warm on the campus of Cook College at Rutgers University, where many gathered for the 5K walk.

PCG Digital Marketing’s Nicole Chasan has been involved with the JDRF walk since she was five years old and has been volunteering for the past 10 years. Nicole is personally affected by the cause since she is close to someone who is affected by the disease.

“My best friend Brian was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was just three years old,” Nicole explained. “Since his diagnosis, his family and mine have been dedicated to raising money for the JDRF to help find a cure. They created the group ‘Brian’s Bunch’ and have walked in the event at Rutgers University for years.”

PCG Walks To For Type 1 Diabetes Research

Over 1,000 people attend the walk at Rutgers and Nicole was thrilled to be part of the volunteer efforts. Throughout the day, she helped to set up the track, assisted walkers when parking their cars and handed out water and snacks at the rest stop areas.

JDRF’s overall goal is to raise money to fund research initiatives that will ultimately find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. To commemorate the event, everyone who participates in the walk received breakfast and lunch as well as a complimentary t-shirt.

“Brian is now 23 and has to do frequent blood tests and deal with fluctuating glucose levels. My family attends the walk every year,” said Nicole. “Several years ago, Brian’s family took charge of organizing the walk and I’ve been volunteering with my sister ever since.”

Thanks to Nicole and the thousands of people across the nation who Walk to Cure Diabetes, tons of awareness and money have been raised. This year’s walk raised over $145,000 dollars. If you’d like to donate to the JDRF, visit http://www.jdrf.org/index.cfm?page_id=112406
