Australian Startup Spreadsheetopia Takes The Hassle Out Of Formatting Excel
‘Spreadsheet formatting made quick and easy’ app attracting international interest and collaborative support from Berlin’s KeyRocket
By: Spreadsheetopia & KeyRocket
Started in early 2012, Spreadsheetopia was developed as an app to quickly and easily format Excel spreadsheets on both Windows and Mac.
“I’d been working for years with poorly formatted spreadsheets sent to me by friends and peers who didn’t know, or couldn’t work out, how to format,” Spreadsheetopia co-founder Jason Bagg said.
“And let’s face it, if you’re not dealing with Excel everyday, and even if you are, it can be daunting – even people who do deal with it daily sometimes struggle,” he said.
“So the challenge was to make a quick and easy formatting app that anyone can use to make ‘spreadsheeting’
The process of building the app was collaborative from the start, with programming and design crowd sourced and completed within a two-week timeframe. The initial customer feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
Spreadsheetopia has now entered into a collaborative partnership with German-based startup KeyRocket to cross promote products, share market feedback and research and customer acquisition strategies.
“Collaboration is the key in this agile app development market,” Mr Bagg said.
“KeyRocket found our video on Vimeo and sent us an email introducing themselves. From there we met in person in Berlin and schedule regular calls to keep in touch. We've now developed a professional arrangement that will benefit both parties.”
Spreadsheetopia will be launched directly to KeyRocket’s customer base in the coming weeks, further expanding the app’s reach.
"When I stumbled across Spreadsheetopia I knew it was exactly what our users need to save time in Excel! After meeting in Berlin and seeing how much Spreadsheetopia and KeyRocket think alike, it was clear that we'd work together,” Jan Mechtell, KeyRocket co-founder, said.
Founded in Melbourne in 2012, Spreadsheetopia simplifies the process of using MS Excel with their first app - Spreadsheetopia Fundamentals. Designed collaboratively in an agile development environment, it is rapidly revolutionizing the way individuals and businesses are quickly and easily producing professionally finished spreadsheets.
KeyRocket is software that shows timesaving keyboard shortcuts to computer users, when they use slow and inefficient mouse clicks. The shortcut hints appear as subtle pop-ups, which do not interrupt workflow. Success notifications and a personal progress dashboard make learning shortcuts more rewarding and fun. KeyRocket supports Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook – and Windows. A Chrome extension to use shortcuts in Gmail is also available in the Chrome Web Store. With over 1,700 shortcuts, KeyRocket already covers the basic needs of most office workers. In the coming months, the team will continue to expand support for more specialized software. KeyRocket software is developed by Veodin Software GmbH at their headquarters in Berlin, Germany.
