Nov. 21, 2012 - PRLog -- Like aging, the holidays are not for sissies. While for some people, Thanksgiving is a time to express gratitude, for many others, it is simply the onset of holiday demands that make them feel stressed, where they become either hyper, depressed, or some unhappy combination of the two.

According to a recent article in the Huffington Post (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/21/reduce-stress_n_2171110.html?utm_hp_ref=holiday-stress-busters), researchers have reported that “an estimated 60 to 80 percent of doctors' visits involved some stress-related health issue” while, according to a recent American Psychological Association poll, nearly 25% of Americans report feeling extreme stress. To make things even more dire, stress has been linked to any number of chronic health issues, including diabetes, cancer, asthma and heart disease.

What is the cause of stress and what keeps people stuck in it? Qigong master teacher and “energy resonance specialist” Vicki Dello Joio has some ideas about this.

"In Traditional Chinese Medicine, stress is simply stuck energy,” says Dello Joio, founder of The Way of Joy, A Spiritual Fitness program. “We live in a society that has become so fast paced and demanding that sometimes it feels like you have to run full speed ahead just to stay in place. At the same time, it is relatively simple to open up those stuck channels so that qi (life force) can flow. Then we can redirect that energy to enhance our health instead of diminish it.”

A self-described “Type A” personality whose father was an award winning composer, Dello Joio grew up in New York City and witnessed from a young age the powerfully damaging ways stress affected people with high profiles, some of the most well-known artists and celebrities of the time. She began a long journey of study to find out how to reverse these devastating effects.

According to the Mayo Clinic (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/meditation/HQ01070), “meditation can wipe away the day's stress, bringing with it inner peace”.

“So many people have come up to me and said 'I would LOVE to meditate. I just don’t have the time!' I knew that to really help people in this day and age, I needed to distill the information I have accumulated over my 42 years of practice. I made it my business to come up with some quick, easy-to-learn ways to relax our bodies and get qi to flow again. I truly believe that this is the foundational key to well-being in body, mind and spirit.”

Dello Joio has just re-released her popular meditation CD (http://www.wayofjoy.com/sample.html), Short Meditations for a Busy Life just in time for the holidays. Under 10 minutes each, these six practices address such vital issues as overwhelm, creating boundaries, and returning to the “present moment.”

Dello Joio also works with private clients to custom-make routines to transform the stagnation of stress into a surge of momentum.

Sometimes called a “Renegade Woo-Woo Coach, Dello Joio combines a common- sense practical attitude with a solid body of work in the fields of energy consciousness. She posts a weekly video (http://www.vickidellojoio.com) on quick tips to embody vitality.
