Patients Allege Zimmer NexGenKnee Replacement Causing Serious Side Effects

Oct. 3, 2012 - PRLog -- Patients are filing suit against the medical device manufacturer, Zimmer, for producing a product they allege caused severe side effects.  These side effects have included localized pain, swelling, immobility, and osteoarthritis. Patients allege that this is due to both rejection and slippage of faulty knee implant devices.

The Zimmer NexGenKnee was introduced in 2003 as a viable knee replacement solution because it featured non-cement pieces which attached to the thigh and shin bones.  In cases of severe knee and joint pain, patients sought relief with knee implants.  These implants would form a replacement knee to resurface the bones in the thigh and shin which rubbed together causing pain.

However, Zimmer knee replacements have been the target of allegations that these implants are defective and potentially dangerous.  A former Zimmer doctor, Dr. Richard A Berger, reported in 2011 that among his patients, 9.3% of the Zimmer NexGen CR-Flex devices were failing prematurely and another 36% were coming loose. These statistics are worrisome considering hundreds of thousands of these devices have been sold since 2003.
