By: STAARwrite AUSTIN, Texas––Registration for STAARwrite’s online, digital, STAAR tutorial courses is now open. These student courses address the essay portions of the 7th Grade, Writing I, Writing II, and Writing III STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) tests. The digital classes, which are offered statewide, provide students with the information necessary to achieve success on these exams. Parents may register for the courses online. Charles Sadnick, president of STAARwrite, stated, “School districts, who are scrambling to raise their STAAR test scores, have found that the reading and writing exams to be the most difficult portions for students.” The Texas Education Agency (TEA) reported that only 55% of students passed the Writing I exam this past spring, while only 34% would have passed had the agency not employed phase-in standards. The next series of STAAR writing assessments begins on December 3. To help students achieve higher scores on the writing exams, STAARwrite offers a series of digital courses, one for each STAAR test. Students access the courses entirely online. Taking place over two nights and lasting a total of four hours, the intense classes are focused wholly on teaching students the skills they need to succeed on the STAAR writing assessments. Sadnick will emphasize the structure of the tests and examine TEA material and the students’ own work through an interactive digital platform, which allows students to take these classes from the comfort of home. Charles Sadnick, a writer, government agency coordinator, and former high school and middle school teacher, instructs all courses.
