James Skogsbergh, president and CEO of Advocate Health Care will receive the honor during the 58th Annual Gutenberg Award dinner on October 9, 2012 at Chicago’s historic Union League Club located at 65 West Jackson Boulevard. Lydia Talbot, Host of WTTW’s 30 Good Minutes will be the Master of Ceremonies for the event, with music provided by Andy Tecson. Dan Swets, executive director of Chicagoland Prison Outreach will also be honored during the ceremony. Mr. Swets leads an innovative non-profit organization that provides job training, bible study, and life skill management to former inmates looking to improve their lives. Mr. Swets also serves as a staff chaplain at Cook County Jail in Chicago, Illinois. The Gutenberg Award has been presented to individuals meritorious of recognition whose life and work promotes the mission of the Chicago Bible Society, which is to distribute and encourage the understanding of the Bible. James Skogsbergh joined Advocate as chief operating officer in 2001. Affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the United Church of Christ, Advocate is one of the nation’s top health systems and the largest integrated health system in Illinois. Before joining Advocate, Skogsbergh served as executive vice president of the Iowa Health System in Des Moines, as well as the president and chief executive officer of Iowa Methodist, Iowa Lutheran and Blank Children’s hospitals. Skogsbergh is a fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), serves on the boards of Chicago United and World Business Chicago and is a former chair of the Illinois Hospital Association (IHA). In announcing the award, Kenneth Oliver, executive director of the Chicago Bible Society, said Skogsbergh’s leadership at the faith-based health and hospital system was considered worthy of the recognition. “Advocate is the ‘gold-standard’ Chicago Bible Society provides Bibles to prisons, hospitals and other institutions in the greater Chicago region, and promotes the study and understanding of Scripture. The Society is one of the oldest non-profit organizations in Illinois, being founded in 1840, and works cooperatively with all Christian confessions – Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant. Since 1952, the Society has presented the Gutenberg Award to prominent individuals, including General Douglas MacArthur, Billy Graham, and Cardinal Bernardin.
