Aug. 23, 2012 - PRLog -- Barry Cloyd has been singing since before he could walk and has played guitar since he was 6 years old, followed by banjo and several stringed instruments by the time he was 12.  He comes from a musical family.  His mother was a jazz singer and his grandmother was a touring opera singer.  Barry followed the traditional family life style through grade school, marriage, and then divorce. The divorce freed him to explore his music full time as a musician, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.

His next chapter has begun, as he has been touring for 13 years and having a great time of it.  He currently is booking more than 200 shows per year covering many different types of venues, spreading his music everywhere.  He has written many original works including:

•   “The Wind and The Water” (all original)
•   “After the Storm” (Celtic based with one original)
•   “Yuletide Fire” (Holiday with two originals)
•   “The Rainmaker’s Garden” (all original)
•   He also has four other CD’s with Prairie Folklore Theatre, a theatre company that he partners with.  Titles are   “Prairie Fire”, “A Prairie Christmas”, “River Ghosts” and “Civil War Ghost and Legends”.

Barry Cloyd is a busy man spreading his talents everywhere and audiences all over the world eagerly await further works from this talent.

Barry Cloyd’s latest release “Spirit Dance” (all original), encompasses yet another layer of creative thinking.  Three songs, highlights from this CD take him to his next destination in life.   “I Close My Eyes”, Spirit Dance” and “Dreamer” are three that clearly represent this newest installment.

“I Close My Eyes” lyrically came from sitting in his dad’s hospital room as he was leaving this world.  Barry slips into a dream state and sees himself when he was young.  On the ride home that day, he writes a song.  This is an extremely personal song and releasing it shows incredible depth and humility.  His acoustic guitar playing with his heavenly voice captivates you while emotions overflow.  Extremely powerful, poignant and emotion filled.

“Spirit Dance” is a tale of a Native American tradition called a Vision Quest in which a young boy who is about to enter manhood is sent into the woods to live by himself in the wilderness for 4 days and 4 nights.  It is said that he will experience visions of what he is to become and understand why he is here on earth.  This story is told with vigor and absolution, with anticipation and acceptance.  Vocals and guitar are in perfect
harmony telling the story with such a dramatic delivery that you feel like you are there.

“Dreamer” is a created story of Jessie and the Dreamer, archetypes of folks he has met.  It is that universal story where everybody knows someone who has made some bad decisions and has had to pay for them.  This one was quick and easy to write and carries a similar dramatic flow.

Barry Cloyd put blood sweat and tears into this project, immersing himself in the production and as a result learned a lot about the process and the songs as well.
Barry also has many projects that he is working on along with other accolades and accomplishments well worth noting:

•   Barry has been in Nashville working on his next CD with an amazing cast of musicians.  Production and engineering of the initial phase of his next recording which has a working title “Southland” is being handled by Tim Carter of the Carter Bros. Band and the world-renowned Carter family (Johnny Cash family).
•   Recently Barry spent a month in Baja California Sur, Mexico and was able to arrange shows, songwriting workshops and radio interviews in the Todos Santos/Cabo San Lucas area.  Special thanks to Teatro Luna Azul (Blue Moon Theatre), the iconic Baja Club Shut Up Frank’s and Wendy Rains at CaboMil 96.3 FM for hosting Barry’s appearances.
•   Barry is now an endorser for Recording King Guitars (www.recordingking.com) and will provide YouTube video demos of some of their incredible instruments as well as demonstrate their products at various trade shows.  Recording King is an internationally distributed 75-year-old iconic guitar, banjo and dobro maker.  He has also been named an international endorser for G7th capos, which are beautifully crafted, award-winning capos made in England.
•   Barry is pleased to have his songs “The Edge of New Orleans” (After the Storm) and “Heartbeat” from his newest CD “Spirit Dance” being played on the Celtic Roots Radio Station in Belfast, Northern Ireland
•   Barry has just recorded a podcast for the Chicago Acoustic Underground group, which will air in 45 countries.

Barry is continuously touring throughout the Midwest and elsewhere.  In early 2013, he will head back to Mexico for an extended stay and tour, which will include a number of shows and songwriting workshops in the lower Baja, Cabo San Lucas/Todos Santos area.
