Aug. 10, 2012 - PRLog -- The key to telemarketing is confidence in your own telephone technique—and if you don’t have that, you are unlikely to succeed in selling anything. While telemarketing is a job that can be difficult at first, it can be much more enjoyable for you and your client if you employ a few tricks of the trade.

Boost your self-confidence. A telemarketer with low confidence in his or her telephone technique will make endless excuses for not picking up the phone. Usually, this is due to one of the following:

-   Lack of self-confidence: While this can be a completely personal issue, it’s often due to a telemarketer not knowing what he or she is doing. If you’re unclear about the call guidelines or are unfamiliar with the product, then making calls can be an intimidating prospect.

-   Lack of confidence in the product: Get some good product training and find out how your product or service can help people. This will help you feel good about selling the product.

-   Fear of rejection: One of the best telemarketing tips is to remember that sales is a numbers game. Even if the majority of your calls do not result in sales, keep in mind that your company needs to make so many calls to make a sale.

-   Lack of organization: Keep a script in front of you and be as knowledgeable as possible about your product. Take time between calls to collect yourself and prepare. That way, you won’t feel stressed—you’ll be in the right mood to make calls.

-   Lack of goals: Set clear call goals for yourself—otherwise it can seem like are working in a vacuum. If you know the outcome you want, you’ll be more focused and confident during calls—and you’ll have a greater sense of satisfaction when you make a sale.

Now that you’ve pinpointed the cause for a lack of self-confidence, it’s time to work toward improving it. Generally, if you just act confident, you’ll start to truly feel that way eventually.

-   Fake it ‘til you make it. Think about the most confident person you know, and copy their actions: stand up straight, make eye contact, and smile.

-   Take time to role play all of your call and objection handling scripts so that you’re comfortable and familiar with lots of possible situations that could arise.

-   Use confident language. Instead of using words or phrases like “perhaps” and “is it possible,” use assumptive phrases like, “What we’ll do next is…” and “Would option A or option B suit you better?” This will increase your client’s confidence in you and the product you’re selling.

Okay, now you’ve got self-confidence: now for one of the most important telemarketing tips out there. try to work on confidence in the product or service you’re selling. If you don’t believe in it, you should probably find a new job—because clients pick up on your conviction or lack thereof. Instead of feeling like the customer is doing you a favor by buying, you’ve got to remind yourself that you’re benefiting the customer by providing a good service. Have confidence in yourself and in your product, and you’ll enjoy your job and do well.

Keep in mind that telemarketing is just one of many ways in which you can promote products and services. There are other profitable marketing avenues you can also take advantage of to increase your chances of success. To learn more, visit http://www.opubco.com.
