June 20, 2012 - PRLog -- When all the regular Z16 Chevelles were built at the Kansa City plant two prototypes built in Baltimore. Sadly the original Z16 convertible has not been seen and is suspected to have been destroyed adds James Copeland. There is one convertible that was custom built for Chevy General Manager Semon Knudson- this car is often referred as the 201st Z16 Chevelle. What did the Z16 option include? According to James Copeland the Z16 option included a convertible boxed frame, a shortened rear axle and brake assembly from the contemporary Impala, heavy duty suspension, and all the Comfort of a Chevelle. James Copeland shares his thoughts on a few of the Z16’s at: http://todaysmusclecars.com/prototypes/ .

James goes on to mention that the Z16 standard big block 396 Turbo Jet V8 came equipped only with the Muncie close-ratio four speed manual trany. He goes on to describe the rear of the Z16 and how it had a black trim chrome panel that stood out from among other models. This rear panel framed the untrimmed Chevelle tail lights. The Chevelle models of 1965 came equipped with a massive 350 horse power engine and for those who wanted a high performance mid sized car, this was the one car to get. The newer models in 1967 and 1968 also offered high performance but at a lower scaled 325 horse power. For those who wanted cars offering speed and great performance on the road the Chevelle offered that much and more.
