Mobile is New Internet, but 43% of Companies Don’t Know How to Get Started

43% of companies who are not in the mobile space say they just don’t know where to begin. Mobile experts give tips on how companies can get started and how the line between mobile and internet is blurring.
 
June 11, 2012 - PRLog -- “Talk with the Experts” webinar host Jodi Bailey Gill, speaking about mobile marketing, shared that 43% of companies who were not in the mobile space said their biggest hindrance was they just didn’t know where to begin (Source: The Experts Bench survey, May 2012).  The monthly program produced by The Experts Bench (TEB), an industry leader for marketing consultants to Global 500 companies, features professionals who weigh in on timely marketing topics.  

Guests on “Talk with the Experts: Mobile Marketing” were Robb Dillon (Strategic Mobile Engagement, Mozes, Inc.), Kristen Rankin (FVP & Mobile Channel Manager, Suntrust Banks) and Peggy Anne Salz (Analyst, Mobile Groove).  They gave companies advice on how compete in the mobile landscape.

“The line between mobile and internet is blurring,” said Dillon.  Rankin agreed. “It’s the new web…and it will evolve even beyond that to an integrated experience.”

“Mobile is a social experience, particularly among millennials, Gen Y and ‘mobile moms’,” said Salz.  Added Rankin, “Good user experience is critical--from speed, to start-up time, to the look and feel of the interaction.  You have a limited amount of space to get it right.”

Dillon provided this best practice for companies not already in the mobile space: “Get everyone on board about the strategic importance of mobile….don’t focus on the ‘shiny, hot today, we need a game, we need an app’ just because everyone’s doing it.  Understand mobile’s strategic importance in your global marketing efforts and why it will benefit you in the short- and long-term.”

As far as companies who don’t know how to start, Salz has this advice: “Don’t get too confused by the technology.  Understand that [mobile] is a channel to the customer--it’s about engagement…understanding the audience…and not that different from [traditional] marketing.”
