| Studio West Gallery home to a Little Free LibraryStudio West Gallery, the Home of Art with a Heart, is now also home to a Little Free Library, generously provided by Work Skills Corporation.
Located just outside the Studio’s great glass door, the Little Free Library may initially appear to be a mailbox or bird house. Upon closer inspection, however, visitors will find that the small wooden structure actually contains books, protected from the elements, but free and available for anyone to borrow. Operating on the “take a book, leave a book” principle, Studio West staff simply ask that items that are taken from the little library are returned within a reasonable timeframe. Studio West Gallery strives to promote and celebrate all kinds of art, including visual, performance, and literary expression. Staff plan for the Little Free Library to be stocked with stories, as well as volumes that promote creativity through other art forms as well. The options will vary depending on what additional books the community chooses to contribute to the collection. Currently the library does not have a specific theme, though one may be declared if the staff notice that a certain theme is particularly popular and fits with the Studio’s mission. Studio West is open Tuesdays-Saturdays from 12 noon -8 p.m. The gallery and retail room feature unique art works and gift items for purchase, created by individuals who have barriers to employment and their professional artist allies. For the most up-to-date information about classes, workshops, and other experiential art opportunities please check out Studio West’s website and Facebook page. Studio West Gallery is a venture of Work Skills Corporation, a 501(c)3 community-based organization that is committed to providing employment to people with barriers to employment, and optimizing human potential.
