Is your website ready for mobile access?

Chatham-based web experts Netsite are urging businesses to make sure their websites can be easily accessed and used with smartphones or face serious commercial consequences.

May 30, 2012 - PRLog -- With mobile device ownership increasing rapidly, businesses cannot afford to ignore the need for websites that works with the latest technology.

Research by Google and Ipsos in January 2012 shows that 45 per cent of the UK population uses smartphones and that consumers are increasingly using their smartphones to access the internet*.  The research also found that more consumers in the US, UK, Germany, France and Japan use a mobile phone than a computer.

Netsite Managing Director Paul Duthoit said: “It’s a fact that companies will lose money if they don’t get their websites converted. And it’s not just about being able to view a website from a smartphone – if your website is transactional customers need to be able to place orders and make payments with their smartphones. In fact, every part of your website must be accessible and function from a mobile device, including e-recruitment facilities, in the same way it works from a PC.”

Paul stresses that converting a website to a mobile design does not have to be expensive and a complete re-design isn’t always necessary.

“One of the key things is having a website that will automatically recognise the mobile device being used, whether it’s a smartphone or a tablet, and shrink to fit. It’s also important to make the site very quick and easy to use on a mobile device or potential customers will get frustrated and log off,” he explained.

Netsite is offering free assessments to businesses who would like to talk to an independent expert about what they could do to make sure their websites are mobile. For more information telephone 01634 880800 or go to www.netsite.co.uk
