Upcoming Tampa Parenting Workshop To Feature Nationally-Recognized Parenting Expert Loren Buckner
Buckner will present a meaningful, informative workshop for parents, educators, and mental health professionals on May 5, 2012
An innovative and interactive workshop sponsored in conjunction with The Bridge Tampa, a local non-profit organization, Ms. Buckner’s ParentWise presentation will focus on conscientious parenting, coping with the challenges of family life, and exploring the realities of parenting.
Buckner, a psychotherapist in private practice for over 25 years, knows first-hand the difficulties parents face: “While parenting is wonderful and rewarding, it is also demanding. Parenthood not only rearranges a parent’s external life, but it shakes up a parent’s internal life, as well. Moreover, children change the dynamic of a couple’s relationship in ways neither parent could have anticipated. Whether they’re coping with infancy or adolescence, parents frequently ask me the same question: ‘Why didn’t anybody tell me what this was really going to be like?’.”
With the wisdom the comes from being married for thirty years, parenting two children into adulthood, and over two decades of work as a psychotherapist, Ms. Buckner adds a distinct and uniquely qualified voice to the parenting discussion. A sought-after presenter who has spoken locally, nationally and internationally on the emotional challenges of family life, Ms. Buckner is the author of ParentWise: The Emotional Challenges of Family Life and How to Deal with Them.
Ms. Buckner brings to the table much more than traditional parenting advice: Ms. Buckner's mission is to help parents deepen their understanding of themselves which, she believes, is crucial to creating healthier and happier family relationships.
Participants in Ms. Buckner’s ParentWise workshop will learn:
• The importance of their childhood and life histories
• How children impact a couple’s relationship
• The significance of unconditional love
• How to cope with the darker emotions of everyday life—guilt, selfishness, disappointment, worry, anger, and sometimes even hatred that all parents feel but are often ashamed to talk about
