Songdoor 2012 Open For Submissions
The SongDoor 2012 International Songwriting Competition is open to entries. Awards total: $40,000+. All entrants receive an unlimited-access SongU.com trial and free key-transposing software. Details: www.songdoor.com.
"We're now in our seventh year," said SongDoor president, Tony Zotta. "Each year we continue to grow while other competitions have seen their entry numbers drop precipitously. We sincerely believe it's because our entrants know we care about their success, and we prove it to them by giving them free songwriting tools and advice throughout the year. You can email SongDoor any time and get a helpful, personal response from someone who understands the industry."
Entrants are eligible to win the Grand Award, valued at approximately USD $7,951 in music merchandise and services, including a single-song publishing contract with Hard Twist Music-BMI (owned by mega-hit songwriter Bill Shore), a full-band private session demo at 16 Ton Studios, a one-year full-access membership to SongU.com, a copy of MasterWriter 2.0 songwriting software, a Primo MoB membership to Broadjam, a #1 Membership to songsinc.com and an autographed copy of Amazon.com's best-selling songwriting book, "Shortcuts to Songwriting for Film and TV," by Robin Frederick. Six Category Winners each receive a valuable package of prizes valued at almost $5,468, including a top-shelf guitar/vocal or piano/vocal studio demo produced at Herringbone Recording Studio and memberships to SongU.com, songsinc.com and Broadjam.
"The entry fee for the competition (which has remained at $10 since 2006), is a great value for songwriters looking to get their music heard by industry people," explains Zotta. "No one loses when they enter SongDoor; every single person who makes the effort to enter gets a free 45-day unlimited-access trial to Songu.com and free key-transposing software, whether they win or not." No special membership or signup is required, and anyone 18 or older may enter.
SongDoor has helped to launch a number of careers: 2010 Grand Award winner, Ryan Martinez, was chosen to write at the ASCAP convention with monster-writer Desmond Childs (Aerosmith, Bon Jovi). Previous winner Anthony Snape has toured with guitar virtuouso Tommy Emmanuel and has done an extensive college tour. More than 60 former SongDoor winners have gone on to get label and/or publishing deals, tours and opening gigs for major artists.
Industry heavyweights Joe Beck, Jason Blume, Dennis Winters, Bill Shore, Nancy Moran and Steve Avedis are with SongDoor to serve as judges this year.
The SongDoor International Songwriting Competition is an annual event, open to amateur and professional songwriters worldwide.
