Swansea’s Big Screen To Host Unique Portrait Of The Queen

April 19, 2012 - PRLog -- Swansea’s Big Screen in Castle Square is set be one of a number of big screens across the country to host a unique UK wide project which aims to celebrate the nation’s children and young people in the lead up to the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Face Britain project will see thousands of self portraits, created by children aged 4 -16 years old, form a montage image of the Queen which will be projected on to the frontage of Buckingham Palace.  

This montage will be simultaneously screened on Swansea’s Big Screen between 8.30pm and 11.00pm for three nights from Thursday 19 April until Saturday 21 April.

Face Britain is a unique project created by The Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts and brought to life by PhotoBox.

Over 200000 portraits were uploaded on to the Face Britain online gallery with a selection used to create the final montage.   Portraits in any medium were accepted including drawing, textiles, 3D, painting, graphics and photography.

The montage image will be attempting to break the Guinness World Records title for ‘Most artists working on the same art installation’ – the current record is 28,267 artists who contributed to an installation in Israel in 2009.

The Swansea Big Screen becomes an Olympic Live Site from 1 May 2012 with a full programme of screenings and events taking place in the lead up to the Olympic Games.  Be part of it in Swansea.
