Boy Scouts Team Up To Help Homeless Veterans

Local Arizona Boy Scout, Taylor Young, is doing some construction projects at the homeless veterans transitional housing complex as part of his eagle scout project.

April 17, 2012 - PRLog -- Troop 6 of the Camelback District in the Grand Canyon Council based in the Arcadia area of Phoenix will be working with The Madison Street Veterans Association at The MANA House on Saturday, April 21 from 9am till 2pm doing a number of construction projects to enhance the quality of life for the former homeless veterans now living at the transitional housing center located at 755 E. Willett Road, Phoenix, AZ

The project is being directed by Taylor Young as part of his Eagle Scout Project and will include as many as 15 Boy Scouts ranging in ages from 9-17 from Troop 6. “The Boy Scouts have always stood for service to country and what better way to support our country than to help our military veterans, especially the ones needing the most help. I am honored to have the opportunity to help these veterans.", states Taylor Young, a 15 year old sophomore at Saguaro High School in Scottsdale who has spent over 8 years working towards his Eagle Scout. Less than 2% of all Boy Scouts ever become Eagle Scouts. It is the highest rank among the Boy Scouts who were founded in 1910 has over 2.7 million youth members. The Madison Street Veterans Association runs The MANA House offers transitional housing to 51 veterans living at the facility. The veterans range from age early 20s to over 60 and are provided a clean bed, showers, hot meals, job assistance, medical treatment at the nearby VA hospital and support from their fellow veterans. They can live at the transitional housing center for up to 2 years while completing their education and obtaining a job and permanent housing. Mr. Terry Araman, the Executive Director for The Madison Street Veterans Association is a Vietnam Veteran who was homeless upon return from service. He founded the MANA House in 2009 to help homeless veterans in Phoenix. In December 2011, Mr. Araman was invited to The White House to meet with President Obama to discuss ways to end the homelessness among veterans.
