The announcement comes after the driest year on record with only 40 per cent of the average rainfall falling over the past two months. Paul Crocket, the drought manager for the Midlands has said that, “We are already seeing early impacts on the environment and a dry summer will make this worse.” Zeus Global UK understands that though water companies in the area, including Severn Trent, have said that they won’t be imposing a hosepipe ban at this stage, the Environmental Agency is asking that residents and businesses do their best to limit their water use to help prevent problems further down the line.

A spokesperson for the outsource sales company said, “No matter what industry you work in it is up to all of us to try and help out where we can when it comes to our water usage. If you need to wash your car then try and do so from a single bucket of soapy water, followed by a quick hose-down afterwards, rather than keeping the hose running the whole time.”

Thames Water, which provides water to London and the South East has brough in a hosepipe ban for residents that they serve. The drought section of their website gives useful tips about how you can help save water, though Coventry residents don’t need to worry about the drought measures they talk about at this time.
