Why Oracle Is Buying Taleo, High Tech HR Tool

Feb. 9, 2012 - PRLog -- Oracle Corp. is buying Taleo Corp. for about $1.9 billion.  That's the headline - but, what's the real deal?

The Reason:

For Oracle, Taleo brings Internet-based technology helping companies manage human resources and recruit employees. It's been reported that Taleo’s technology is used by 5,000 organizations.

Bloomberg.com says it's smart move considering Oracle is using acquisitions to build its cloud business as part of efforts to help blunt the impact of a possible slowdown in software sales growth.  

Cloud services are meant to appeal to customers hoping to save money by letting them access computing power over the Web.

Not The First, Won't Be The Last:

It's Oracle's second cloud-computing acquisition in three months, following the $1.5 billion purchase of RightNow Technologies Inc. last December.

Is This A "Response Move"?

Late last year, SAP AG announcement of their acquisition of SuccessFactors Inc. for $3.4 billion.

The Taleo acquisition is expected to close mid-year, Oracle said.
