Feb. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- Val Fiott of Perfect Personal Training gives his top five ways to improve your wellness, fitness, and personal health:

First and foremost, you need to be consuming anti-oxidant food and drink through the day.  There are, for example, a huge variety of teas that will do your body a lot of good, and will ease the aging process very significantly.  Also, you can replace foods such as jelly with a healthy, wild berry fruit spread to improve the number and quality of anti-oxidants that you get.  And of course, replacing desserts and unhealthy snacks with fruits and vegetables is always a way to boost your defenses.

Water intake is also of paramount importance.  It really is a big reason why we're so unhealthy in this country.  We consume foods and drinks that dehydrate us, and then we don't replenish.  Whatever your weight in pounds, divide by two and you can safely presume that this is the amount of ounces of water you need each day.  In the sun or exercising for more than an hour?  Then you can increase that number by 30-100%, throughout the day.  Water is necessary for EVERY biological process to happen smoothly.  Don't cheat yourself.

The third big way to improve your wellness is to get moderate to high-intensity cardiovascular exercise for more than 25 minutes, at least five or six days per week.  Studies show that two or three times per week isn't cutting it in terms of preventive health for the heart and lungs.

Sleep is another big factor in preventive health, but it's not just sleep quantity, it is sleep quality, also.  Have NO lights on, and block out all outside light when you sleep.  Seriously, it's critical for all of your slumber-related processes to take place properly and easily.  And, try to sleep between 9:30pm and 6am or so.  Around nine hours per night is ideal, especially between these times.  You may need more sleep after heavy exercise sessions, and that's very normal.  Finally, my fifth piece of advice for health & wellness is to put together a very personalized strength program.  It's not just about being toned, but about healthier joints, longer-lasting bones, and about boosting and maintaining metabolism.  I do recommend seeking the councel of a Perfect Personal Trainer for your strength training, because it can be very dangerous and ineffective if not performed properly and with your own fitness needs in mind.
