Jan. 30, 2012 - PRLog -- White Plains, NY -During these challenging times for the arts, an unusual arts organization will make its debut in Westchester County, NY: a new orchestra.  On Sunday, March 18 at 3pm, the New Westchester Symphony Orchestra (NewWSO) presents “Strike Up the Orchestra! The Inaugural Concert of the New Westchester Symphony Orchestra” at the ArtsWestchester Building, 31 Mamaroneck Ave, White Plains, NY 10601.  NewWSO is an audition-free orchestra of local amateur musicians conducted by Benjamin Niemczyk. The concert will feature such works as Symphony 40 3rd Mov’t (Mozart), Habanera (Bizet), Air on a G String (Bach), Meditation (Massenet), Nimrod (Elgar), Death of Ase (Grieg), and Dido’s Lament (Purcell).

Mr. Niemczyk states,“We believe that classical music can and should be played by anyone, for everyone. The musicians of the New Westchester Symphony Orchestra played in high school or college but put their instrument away for years, even decades, to pursue career or family.  They kept their instrument all these years, hoping they would someday play again without stressful auditions or intense rehearsals.  Today, NewWSO gives them the perfect outlet to play with others in a comfortably challenging environment. Our debut concert will showcase these ‘regular’ people playing great music, and the results will demonstrate our members’ love of rehearsing and performing music for themselves as well as for friends, family, and the community.”

Professional musicians give the public a wonderful gift virtuosic performances of works by the masters of classical music.  However, there can be challenges to attending classical music performances.  Most orchestral performances take place in New York City and professional performances can be expensive.

Fortunately, NewWSO provides the diverse population of Westchester County with a low-cost opportunity to hear significant orchestral works performed live in their backyard.  As an amateur, non-audition orchestra funded by member dues and community donations, NewWSO wishes to spread the infectious pleasure of both listening to and performing classical music throughout Westchester and beyond.

To experience what NewWSO is all about, attend the debut performance on Sunday, March 18, 3pm at the ArtsWestchester Building, 31 Mamaroneck Ave, White Plains, NY 10601.  Information and advance tickets sales will be posted on the website, http://www.newsymphony.org.
