Se chung oolongs refer to all varietals of oolong produced in Anxi county of Fujian province in China, other than Tie Guan Yin, which is also known as Iron Goddess of Mercy. Among all the se chung oolongs, ben shan is the varietal usually considered to most closely resemble Tie Guan Yin. Ben shan oolong tends to be produced in the greener style, with a light roast and low oxidation level, and tightly rolled leaves producing a strong a floral aroma. Prior to the breakout, RateTea had lumped Ben Shan oolong in with the other se chung oolongs, a category which also contains generic blends of different se chung varietals.
