SMART Recovery (Self-Management and Recovery Training) participants learn self-empowering tools for addiction recovery based on the latest scientific research and participate in a world-wide community which includes free, self-empowering, science-based mutual support groups.
Dr. Tom Horvath, President, states: “We’ve seen immense growth in online message board and meeting registrations, with a near doubling of monthly registrations from 2007 to present, and we now enjoy 800-900 registrations each month. Our online meeting participation has more than doubled in that timeframe and our face-to-face meetings have grown from 365 in 2007 to 667 at present. The number of facilitators trained has nearly quadrupled since 2007, with 228 trainings completed in 2011. Our Handbook is now available in seven languages. It’s exciting to be a part of and witness the immense growth of this important program.”
The SMART Recovery 4-Point Program® helps people recover from all types of addiction and addictive behaviors, including drug abuse, alcohol abuse, gambling addiction, sexual addiction -- addiction to any substance or activity. SMART sponsors face-to-face meetings around the world, and daily online meetings. In addition, our online message board and 24/7 chat room are excellent forums to learn about SMART Recovery and to obtain addiction recovery support. Also available are a message board forum and a weekly online meeting for Family & Friends of those struggling with addictive behaviors.
Via the website, access is available to a multitude of resources – a list of face-to-face meetings around the world, an introduction to the program, access to all of the online activities, tools and homework, access to the bookstore, and much more.
Enhancements and improvements to the website began two years ago, and will be ongoing.
