Canines compete for top model crown

Jan. 20, 2012 - PRLog -- Crufts is not the only important canine competition this year! Dog owners across the UK are invited to enter their pets into Britain’s Next Dog Model 2012 competition with the chance to become the advertising face of the Mikki grooming brand for the year, as well as take part in an exclusive photoshoot with Venture Photography worth £1,000.

The competition will run on the Mikki Facebook page www.facebook.com/MikkiPet for four weeks, starting on Monday, March 19, 2012. Dogs of all breeds, ages and sizes across the UK can be entered by their owners via the Facebook site. After an initial period of public voting, the finalists will be put forward to a panel of expert judges including leading pet charity The Blue Cross, Alison Rogers – award-winning groomer, Claire Arrowsmith - pet behaviourist, as well as Mikki and PetPlanet.co.uk (http://www.petplanet.co.uk) representatives.

The winner will be announced on Facebook on Tuesday, April 17. The Britain’s Next Dog Model competition coincides with National Pet Month and National Grooming Week to help raise awareness of the importance of proactive and effective pet care.

Following a recent independent survey  carried out on behalf of the grooming, training and healthcare experts, Mikki, pet owners in Great Britain spend more money on treats / food and vet bills than grooming or training aides. This reflects a lack of investment in preventative care.

“There is an important message behind all the fun of Britain’s Next Dog Model,” explains Anh Nguyen, Mikki Brand Manager. “Regular grooming plays an important role in any animal’s welfare. It’s not all about looking nice – grooming offers a great way for pet owners to spot potential health issues as well as being a great way to bond with a pet.”

This is the second year that the Britain’s Next Dog Model competition has taken place. In 2011, there were more than 450 entries, with Scout – a four year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel from Buckinghamshire claiming the 2011 title.

Key dates:

Monday, March 19 – competition goes live on Facebook for public entries and voting
Monday, April 9 – entries and public voting closes
Shortlist reviewed by expert judging panel
Tuesday, April 17 – winner announced on Facebook
