PRLog -- Lilly, the leading pharmaceuticals company, held an awareness campaign for pharmacists to inform them on ways to help patients get the best from prescribed treatments. It also helped them get to know all the latest news and achievements in terms of treating impotence. Lilly undertakes the responsibility of helping those who prefer silence over turning to experts for help, especially in major problems like impotence.
Impotence, or inability for a man to reach or maintain an erection, is a problem suffered by 40-50% of men in the Gulf and Saudi Arabia, according to scientific research, with rates much higher than other regions such as the Mediterranean countries and North Europe. This is mainly due to obesity and lack of exercise and diabetes, and poses a significant danger on the Saudi society, should it maintain the same rate, especially in light of the fact that patients do not seek psychiatric therapy in the first place.
Only 10-15% of the patients seek medical advice, which highlights the importance of encouraging impotent men to claim their right in a better life and seek medical help and early treatment for impotence. It is also very important to support impotence patients, mainly in the early stages, instead of leaving them to become victims of loneliness and isolation, which makes it very difficult to open up to doctors and discuss their sexual difficulties. Impotence is a health condition that can be treated, only when the patient acknowledges the problem and the need for treatment. The role of companies and awareness campaigns is significant at this point to support the patient and convincing him that it is only a problem that can be solved.
Commenting on the subject, Dr. Shedeed Ashour, consultant and surgeon of male diseases: “Men usually wait for about 18 months before seeking medical advice and treatment. The need for awareness campaigns is very urgent at this stage, to encourage men to undergo necessary tests. 90 percent of impotence cases are easy to treat, only when the doctor understands the patient and what he is looking for, and knows the exact problem. The patient needs to regain self confidence and shake off the pressure imposed on him due to the time period as a first step, and this is why impotence patients prefer long term treatments and medications to ease the time pressure and regain their confidence and spontaneous interaction.”
Impotence is a social issue that can be solved by consulting a specialized doctor to prescribe the proper medication. The doctor will also help boost the patient’s self confidence, which makes them deal easier with their partners.
