Nov. 28, 2011 - PRLog -- Devon, PA, November 28, 2011:  When John Durso’s 30-year-old friend, Rip Roscioli, tragically died in an accident a couple of years ago, Durso wanted to help Rip’s wife. Suddenly single, and without life insurance on her husband, she was struggling to care for their nine-year old son, who has a medical condition.  Rip had been second baseman in Durso’s baseball league so it seemed appropriate to raise money through homerun derbies.  With the germ of the idea in mind for his new fund-raising organization, Homer’s for Hope, Durso sought financial support to get it off the ground.  And he knew exactly where to turn: Pam Rakoczy, President of Liberty In Home Care.

“Liberty In Home Care was a founding sponsor of Homer’s for Hope,” says Durso. “I went to them because the Rakoczy’s are good community people.  I knew I couldn’t go to corporations for funding without a fully fleshed-out organization. If Pam hadn’t helped us, we wouldn’t exist today.  What’s amazing is that I had nothing to show her--just an idea.  Pam took a leap of faith and helped us out with a generous donation.  So I wanted to recognize Liberty In Home Care for the difference they have made in the community.  Today I presented Pam Rakoczy with the Homers for Hope Award to recognize her vital contribution.”

Homer’s for Hope has expanded from its initial mission to help the Roscioli family.  Once Durso shared the Roscioli families’ sad story with others, people began to tell tales of families they knew who had also encountered difficulties.  He discovered that there was no other organization along the Philadelphia Main Line to help people who were suffering due to unexpected turns of fate, often related to health issues. These unfortunate families were stretched thin by health expenses and needed a few extra dollars each month to help pay the bills, keep food on the table, and a roof over their heads.

It only makes sense that Liberty In Home Care would be one of the first to lend a hand because Rakoczy has dedicated her life to caring for others.  After two decades as an occupational therapist, Rakoczy founded Liberty In Home Care to help seniors remain independent at home. The company assists with meal preparation, dressing, bathing, errands and more for a few hours a day or around the clock as needed.
