National Student Day Winners Announced

Oberlin, OH (myPressManager.com) November 09, 2011 The National Association of College Stores (NACS) is pleased to announce the winners of its inaugural National Student Day contest.

Nov. 9, 2011 - PRLog -- More than 275 college students from across North America submitted stories of their volunteer work. Stories were then voted on and the 10 most popular received either scholarships or iPads.

The grand prize winner of a $3,000 scholarship is Kimberly ReMine from DePaul University. Her entry titled This is true love. This is hard love. This is real love. received 6,148 votes. It talked about her volunteer work in Africa with Orphan Medical Network International.

Nicole Addonizio from Syracuse University received a $2,000 scholarship for her second-place entry titled Heart Transplant. Addonizio’s entry, which explained her volunteer work in the heart transplant division at a hospital in New York City, received 3,648 votes.

Receiving a $1,000 scholarship for third place with 3,125 votes is Amanda Perez from San Bernardino Valley College. Perez’s entry, titled Cancer Fighten Children, explains how she volunteers her time at a hospital visiting and playing with children stricken with cancer.

The fourth through tenth place winners who are receiving iPad2s include:
• Laura Schlater, University of Cincinnati, Missionphotography (2,091 votes)
• Rene Marquardt, Kilgore College, Sharing Knowledge, Giving Confidence, Preparing for Life (1,885 votes)
• Chad McKinney, Kilgore College, Playground Therapy (1,681 votes)
• Emily Zerhusen, University of Cincinnati, Jamaica Mission Trip (1,159 votes)
• Tyler Thal, Oakland Community College, Camp Counselor (1,133 votes)
• Marisol Torres, Miami University-Oxford, Everyone Needs a Mentor (886 votes)
• Erica Broadway, University of Cincinnati, We are…Step Forward (845 votes)

National Student Day, sponsored by NACS, is a day dedicated to celebrating and promoting social responsibility by college students. It was celebrated on Oct. 6 by 561 college stores across North America. Next year’s National Student Day is scheduled for Oct. 4, 2012.
