Oct. 28, 2011 - PRLog -- Brian Oram, a professional geologist and soil scientist and founder of B.F. Environmental Consultants, will be instructing a professional development course for engineers as part of Wilkes University’s continued learning program on November 4, from 9 AM to noon.

The course is entitled “Getting the Waters Tested - The Marcellus Shale Factor - An Industry Perspective” and will present a summary of the available information from the Wilkes University Citizen Database and make specific recommendations related to baseline water quality testing and how the Marcellus Shale is a factor in making changes with how we manage our water resources. The workshop is an informational and training session for professionals.

“Because of the large-scale extent of the Marcellus Shale formation, and concerns related to the chemical and biological nature of the formation fluid and frac fluids, professionals and state agencies recommend that private well-owners should have their water tested following the same process that is used for regulated water supplies,” Mr. Oram said.

This is a 3-hour discussion about groundwater quality in Northeastern Pennsylvania.  The talked is for professionals conducting baseline testing, industry PR types, environmental managers, and other individuals working on the Development of the Marcellus Shale.  It is my perspective on how to work as Community and Industry, based on science and fact, and how to use the baseline testing information to make informed decisions about projects and risks.  This talk is based on the available data in the Citizens Groundwater and Surfacewater Database that contains only third-party certified testing data being compiled by Mr. Brian Oram, PG and Wilkes University.  We need to stop collecting baseline data as if it was just a box to check off.  The data has a purpose and has great value for the industry and the community.

November 4, 2011 - 9:00 - Noon - Hosted by Wilkes University at the Woodlands Inn, Wilkes Barre, PA - Cost is only $ 80.00, continuing education credits provided by Wilkes University,  and it is a conventional training course and first webinar - Webinar Will Be Available Register at http://www.wilkes.edu/continuedlearning
