fluid Operations Extends Sesame Semantic Data Management with SPARQL 1.1 Federation

Oct. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- WALLDORF, Germany - fluid Operations™, the leading provider of enterprise cloud and data management solutions based on semantic technologies, in cooperation with Ontotext and Aduna, has contributed to the development of the Sesame system – a freely available system for storing and processing semantic data. The experts from fluid Operations have implemented the SPARQL 1.1 Federation Extensions (standardized by the W3C) in the Sesame 2.6 release. These extensions allow for simultaneous access to distributed data sources and for integrated querying and correlation of data that is freely available on the Web. The contributions to the Sesame system are based on fluid Operations’ FedX technology for efficient federated query processing. “With the integration into Sesame we are making these functionalities freely available to a broad group of users and developers”, said Andreas Schwarte from the FedX development team. The Sesame 2.6 release is available as of now at http://www.openrdf.org/. FedX is available as open-source software at http://www.fluidops.com/fedx/.

Dynamic Data Integration as a Basis for Flexible Knowledge Management in the Enterprise

An application example of the SPARQL 1.1 Federation Extensions is the dynamic integration of data sources in the Information Workbench™. With the Information Workbench, a web-based platform for Linked Data application development, fluid Operations offers innovative data management solutions for the enterprise. "The federated query processing capabilities enable a virtual integration of data sources as a service, eliminating the need to physically integrate data in a centralized database. This means that users of the Information Workbench can correlate and enrich enterprise data with Web data on-demand and on-the-fly." said Peter Haase, R&D Lead at fluid Operations. The Information Workbench is ideal for use in knowledge-oriented sectors, such as for the management of data centers and in the areas of life sciences, and social media management.

The Sesame Data Management System

The Information Workbench builds upon Sesame as a universal framework for the management of semantic data. Sesame provides efficient ways to store, query and process data specified according to the Resource Description Framework (RDF), a W3C standard for machine-readable description of data and metadata. Sesame is thus ideally suited as a flexible storage solution for integrating data from heterogeneous data sources. Many companies from the pharmaceutical, healthcare and manufacturing industries as well as governmental agencies are already using Sesame.
