Time to Reinvent Train Delay Information

In addition to providing in accurate information, train riders normally only find out about the delay when it is too late to make alternate travel arrangements. Even in the instances where Amtrak does communicate delays and outages directly with ticketholders, it's often after the fact.

The survey found that what train commuters want are real time notifications for the trains that they ride every day without having to make a phone call, got a website, or spend much time in a mobile app. Delayly, a project that started at Philadelphia Startup Weekend, has developed a mobile app that determines when trains leave the station by the GPS of users' smartphones and automatically transmits that information to other train riders who would benefit from the delay information.
