Time to Reinvent Train Delay Information

Train delay information is inaccurate and tough to manage. Train riders aren't immediately informed when there is a delay; instead, they need to find out themselves. Delayly is a crowd sourced real time train delay system that solves these problems.

Oct. 16, 2011 - PRLog -- According to a survey commissioned by Delayly, http://www.delayly.com/, most train riders surveyed receive inaccurate train delay information from Amtrak website, automated agent, and customer service representatives. In addition to providing in accurate information, train riders normally only find out about the delay when it is too late to make alternate travel arrangements. Even in the instances where Amtrak does communicate delays and outages directly with ticketholders, it's often after the fact.

The survey found that what train commuters want are real time notifications for the trains that they ride every day without having to make a phone call, got a website, or spend much time in a mobile app. Delayly, a project that started at Philadelphia Startup Weekend, has developed a mobile app that determines when trains leave the station by the GPS of users' smartphones and automatically transmits that information to other train riders who would benefit from the delay information.

Providing real time delay information to train riders is important for a number of reasons. For commuters who must get to work on time and others with tight deadlines, getting delay information as soon as possible is the difference between being able to make alternate travel arrangements and being late to their destination. Also, travelers who are transferring from Amtrak to a regional rail line or other local public transit can better plan their trip with the best possible notice of train delays.

Delayly offers a accurate, real time train delay notification system that train riders, particularly commuters, demand as part of a modern transit system. The application runs in the background of users' smartphones, so other than having the application running,  the Delayly app requires no intervention from train riders. What train riders get in return is the real time train delay information that they have asked for according to the survey data.
