Stanley Gerson is out of the starting gate with iSly, a techno-thriller that packs a wallop.

In writing sci-fi, or a techno-thriller, like the recently printed book iSly, the writer, Stanley Gerson, believes that heavy doses of action and suspense are key to the story.

Oct. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- The reader is so wrapped up in the story, he or she will cut right through any simple explanation of tech background material. It's only later, to their surprise, they can say "I know that stuff."

“Action and suspense make the geek go down, with hardly a ripple,” says author, Stanley Gerson., “When sandwiched between high action, and heady suspense, the reader learns the necessary tech background, without realizing it. Especially when it's laid out in a simple, easy-to-understand way, no important steps or information missing.

“Many people have hid, feeling beaten over the head, with so many buzz words, difficult terms, and techno-babble; they tend to shut down, over computers and even math.” says Stanley Gerson, sci-fi writer, and former automation instructor, “But take nothing away from folks who've gotten through parts of the learning process.”

“There are also easy techniques, to get the reader past a little tech, if they have a literary handrail to guide them through it, and they don't feel alone, for instance: characters in the story.” says the author. “It’s also a chance for computer-savy people, to have a great read, and test for holes in their knowledge, the others are getting for free—a common scenario.”

The writer, Stanley Gerson, is an experienced instructor of computer, controls, and technology classes, to groups comprised from millwrights to engineers. “It was a challenge to teach information, not taught in colleges, to groups that ranged so widely in basic skills,” he says. In teaching technology classes, Gerson was careful to explain simple, clear, and understandable information first, before using any terminology or buzz words. Then the reaction from students, including techies, would often be:
“Is that all there is to that?” Or amazement they just learned something that used to be so mysterious.

“People, generally, have been put in needless awe over these things. I've been there, too. What's been called high tech, maybe, should be called low tech, because, in computers, we've been dealing with very unsmart, non-intuitive machines, that know only 1's and 0's.” says the writer.

“It's a fun challenge to write in the middle of the knowledge scale, and I don't want anyone reading iSly, my latest book, to hit a point where they say, ‘I can't get through this.’ Or if they don't get every tiny point, they get the main points, the bottom line of the story, and can keep on reading. Neither are they bored.”
