Three Tier Designs of the Titleist VG3 Irons

Sept. 16, 2011 - PRLog -- To be totally honest the first time I saw the Titleist CG3 irons in a magazine before release I was excited about them. When I saw them with my own eyes at the shop they looked very different and much bulkier at address, a feeling that persisted when I tried them at the driving range event. But to each of their own, as I said, I think its brilliant marketing from Acushnet Japan, but to my European eyes, the VG3 Discount Golf Sets don't look "Titleist". Even the AP series at address look more classical than that.

Previous shots back in January of the Titleist VG3 Driver gave you a peak into a whole new thought process in regards to design at Titleist. This Titleist VG3 iron was an entirely new concept that Titleist Japan & Titleist US worked together on to create. They wanted to appeal not only to the higher swing speed golfers but also the average club head speed as well. They did this by creating a Variable Gravity and CG position for different lofts…that is where it gets its name VG which stands for “Variable Gravity”.

One of the key features on the VG3 iron is the variable weighting on the sole. VG3 stands for there were 3 varying gravity design models varying between the 9 10 and 11* lofts. On the irons it’s the same 3 tier design with the long irons featuring dual tungsten weighting embedded in both the toe and heel in the sole of iron while the mid irons feature a single tungsten weight in the center of the sole.  The 3rd variable gravity design is the short Discount Golf Clubs where there is no tungsten at all.  This variable gravity design alters the trajectory by changing the CG on each iron. The dual tungsten on the long irons increases forgiveness and MOI while dropping the CG low for big carry and distance ball. The mid irons with a single tungsten weight allow for a higher ball to attack the green from a distance. The short irons with no weights have a higher CG point lowering the trajectory for a stable controlled shot and that touch around the greens.

Thanks to http://www.discountgolf4sale.com/Discount-1088-Titleist-V... thinking they are a little bulky; I didn’t add them into my bag. I just played with a guy who had these irons. After testing them, it seems that they are actually pretty solid looking. Think Callaway x forged, perhaps a little larger size. Basically no offset reasonably thin topline. With irons these days being so offset driven there is a market for a playable no offset club.
