Instructor’s Biographies:
David S. Katz, a former Senior Special Agent for the Drug Enforcement Administration, is an expert in conducting complex international criminal investigations, high-risk arrests, undercover operations, physical/technical surveillance, and intelligence analysis. A recognized authority in the field of law enforcement arrest and defensive tactics, Katz spent four years as an instructor at the FBI/DEA academy at Quantico and has provided training to police and special operations units around the world. He is the CEO of Global Security Group, Inc.(GSG), a company specializing in security consulting, crisis and risk management, specialized training, protective services, investigations, and counter terrorism. David is co-author of “Executive’s Guide to Personal Security” (Wiley & Sons, Inc.), “Personal Safety While Traveling Abroad on Business” (Loss Prevention Magazine) and many other published works. He is a frequent guest on Fox News, CNN and other national and locally broadcast television and radio programs. David has trained the EXP teams protecting some of the world’s most high-profile executives and has taught many others in the Fortune 100 how to travel safely, protect employees and mitigate risks to corporate assets.
Mark J. Novak, is a retired Captain with the NYPD and is the president of GSG. Novak spent over twenty years in the NYPD during which time he responded to hundreds of large scale incidents and emergencies throughout New York City. From 1997 to 2001, he was a member of the NYPD's COBRA team which was trained and equipped to respond to a chemical, biological or radiological attack or release within NYC. Throughout Mark's career, he received extensive training from agencies such as the NYPD, the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and the City's Office of Emergency Management. Topics included physical security, critical incident preparedness, counter terrorism, the national incident management system, hazardous materials, chemical nuclear and biological weapons, disorder control and emergency management among others. As a Captain, he served numerous timesin the roll of incident commander at emergency scenes, including many biological or chemical threat incidents. While in the Detective Bureau, he oversaw numerous high profile and sensitive investigations. Mark was also assigned to the security details for the last three United Nations General
Assemblies, the World Trade Organization Meeting in 2002 and the Republican National Convention.
Mark has prepared emergency response plans for over one hundred high-rise buildings in NYC, including all of the World Financial Center, One and Two Penn Plaza, four of the United Nations Plaza buildings and the Bloomberg corporate headquarters.
Cyril N. Pavoz is an executive protection specialist with more than 20 years experience protecting some of the world’s most well-known celebrities and is the Director of Special Operations for Global Security Group Cyril also has an extensive background in providing coordinated security at special events all over the world and has been the exclusive security consultant for the Tribeca Film Festival since its inception. Born in Paris, France he served three years in the French Army. A graduate of the prestigious Academie Internationale Du Risque, Mr. Pavoz is a certified expert in the areas of
executive protection, anti-terrorist driving, airline security and security training. Mr. Pavoz holds a black belt in Judo and is fluent in French and English, with a working knowledge of Arabic. Cyril Pavoz has been responsible for the advance security arrangements, physical protection and security operations of numerous high-level government officials, celebrities and corporate executives, both in the United States and throughout the world. Before joining GSG.
