| Second Consecutive National Off-road Title For Custom Axis ShocksCustom Axis finished the 2011 SA National Off-road Quad Championship the same way it finished the previous season – by winning it!
By: ETdotKomm Baard won the first two races of the season and followed it up with two more runner-up positions to ensure that he only needed to finish in the top eight to secure the titles. That is exactly what he did at a rocky and dusty 400 kilometre race. He started the main race after the 45km time-trial in 11th place, almost five minutes behind the leaders. The Namibian worked his way to fourth place with his quad fitted with Custom Axis Racing Shocks to taste champagne with the knowledge that he is the 2011 champion. Custom Axis, imported, distributed and serviced in South Africa by ShockLogic, also clinched another national championship title with Sarel van Biljon, racing for CDV Racing on his Can-Am DS450 won the Senior Class championship. Van Biljon won this class at three of the five events (there were victories at the Diamond Route 400; the Ermelo Toyota 400 and at Vredefort) and gave the youngsters a scare beating them at the time-trials! The Modimolle businessman juggled running his transport business and competing on national level this season and was rewarded with a well-deserved 2011 Senior Class championship crown. Competitors in the Senior Class have to complete 75% of the race distance and not having that much time to practice, they rely on an immaculately prepared race quad fitted with only the best products and Van Biljon, known as being racing hard, relied on his Custom Axis shocks this season. Eric Williams (PS Storm Racing Honda TRX450) finished the race in seventh place. Quote from Justin Waddington (owner of ShockLogic): “We are very happy to have won the national off-road quad championship for the second consecutive season with Philipie’s brother, Dirkie, winning it last year also together with Custom Axis. To claim two championships in one series proves that Custom Axis Racing Shocks can deliver when the going gets tough.” Custom Axis Racing Shocks are also the suspension of choice for Tinus Bredenkamp (CDV Racing Can-Am DS450) and his team-mate, Morné Fourie (Arctic Cat). Bredenkamp has won the Senior Open Quad Class earlier this season and is third in the championship, three points behind the leader. Fourie has visited the Junior Modified Quad Class podium on three occassions and is second in the chamionship. Both riders stand a chance to win their championship. Brandon Darlow (Boesman Racing Yamaha) has won the Modified Quad Class at the two previous events while Hein van Gessellen (PS Storm Racing Suzuki) has also been on the podium in this class this season. Custom Axis Racing Shocks are also their suspension of choice. End End
