Happiness-Happens: 50 States 31 Days of Giving UPDATE

"Nine Nanas" known as Happiness-Happens Ambassadors have been spreading happiness and making a mark throughout the country during Happiness Happens Month

Aug. 26, 2011 - PRLog -- So what makes you happy? Is it smelling fresh flowers or hearing from a childhood friend? What about getting an unexpected bonus at work? These things are great, but for thirty-four years, the Nine Nanas have gotten sheer satisfaction making “happiness-happen” for others.

As the 50 States 31 Days of Giving Campaign comes to a close, they’re still looking for recipients in Miami, Portsmouth and Louisville. But here’s a look at a few of the recipients. Although this month-long deed was to find people throughout the U.S. and surreptitiously make happiness-happen, 75% were “do-gooders”, but all were well deserving. The following is an abbreviated list:

1.   Eileen Hayes of Amos House (Providence, RI)
2.   Nancy Papé, Fairy Godmother to neighborhood children (Boise, ID)
3.   Paul McClure, retired attorney serving the underserved pro bono (Memphis, TN)
4.   Kelly Golden, outstanding employee at Fortune 500 company (Memphis, TN)
5.   Brittney Holobinko & Hillary Lynn of Brittney Lynn (Denver, CO)
6.   Kimberly Carter, music teacher who also inspired her mother to pursue a teaching career (Lithonia, GA)
7.   Angela Byrd, parishioner at First Church Birmingham and devoted mother of four (Birmingham, AL)
8.   Sandy Clark, community organizer and school volunteer (Wilmington, DE)

More details on the recipients can be found by reading the Nanas’ blog @ http://happiness-happens.com/blog.html.

About Happiness-Happens

Although their “project” had no name at the time, it all started more than three decades ago. A small group (four sisters, one sister-in-love and four friends) decided to take a different path. Instead of just looking and complaining, the ladies began listening with their hearts.

Over the years, they’ve stepped in and helped widows and single mothers with utility and car payments, filled pantries, delivered their baked goods to the sick and purchased school clothes for children in need. As the Nanas put it, “…it’s like stepping into Santa’s shoes and delivering gifts to people who really want something, but don’t think they’ll ever get or deserve anything.”

After re-grouping, they came up with the novel idea that allows them to cover more ground. Since everybody appreciates the warmth of a grandma, they surreptitiously give the next best thing: scratch-baked pound cake and fresh curd. And just like a grandma’s love, their wares are all natural and without artificial ingredients.

The Nanas prefer to do all their giving surreptitiously. Doing so, keeps the focus on the recipients. To learn more about the ladies and happiness-happens, visit them on the web.
