Course Overview: This American Heart Association Web-based eLearning course provides the cognitive portion (Part 1) of the Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers course, and can be used for initial or renewal certification. Students work at their own pace, taking more time when needed.
Course participants who successfully complete Part 1 receive a certificate granting them entrance to a skills practice session (Part 2) and skills test (Part 3) with a certified American Heart Association instructor, which they must pass to qualify for a BLS for Healthcare Providers course card (AHA BLS Card).

Steps to complete the CPR Course Online:

1.   Register for Atlanta CPR's American Heart Association BLS online course!

2.   When you pass the online examination, print your certificate and bring it to Atlanta CPR to take the American Heart Association approved Skills Test


3.   Students then practice their skills for 30-60 minutes (Part 2) and are tested 30-60 minutes (Part 3) with Atlanta CPR's certified American Heart Association BLS instructors.


4.   Receive your two-year American Heart Association BLS certification card at the end of part 3 (skills test).

Average time to complete the entire process:

Online course length is approximately 1 hour on your own computer.

Skills practice and test is approximately 1 hour at Atlanta CPR.

Most students get their BLS Card in 1 hour after they come to Atlanta CPR!

BLS training is intended for certified or noncertified, licensed or nonlicensed, healthcare professionals, including:

•   Nurses

•   Physicians

•   paramedics

•   emergency medical technicians

•   respiratory, physical, and occupational therapists

•   physician’s assistants

•   residents or fellows

•   medical or nursing students in training

•   aides, medical or nursing assistants, and other allied health personnel

HeartCode ACLS Part 1 Covers

• Key changes reflecting the 2010 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care

• Ten adult patient cases with up to four healthcare providers, presented through eSimulation technology:
– One BLS case – Seven cases representing cardiovascular,
respiratory and stroke emergencies – Two Megacodes

• Recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest

• Recognition and early management of periarrest conditions such as symptomatic bradycardia

• Airway management

• Related pharmacology

• Management of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and stroke

• Effective communication as a member and leader of a resuscitation team

HeartCode ACLS Online training is intended for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient, whether in or out of the hospital, including:

•   Nurses

•   physicians

•   emergency medical technicians

•   paramedics

•   staff in intensive care units and emergency or critical care departments

•   other professionals who may respond to a cardiovascular emergency

The ACLS course covers:

•   ACLS algorithms

•   Airway Management

•   EKG Rhythm recognition

•   ACLS Pharmacology

•   Resuscitation Team Dynamics

•   High-quality CPR

•   Megacode

•   ACS treatment

•   Stroke Treatment

To receive an ACLS course completion card using this program, students must complete three parts:

• HeartCode ACLS Part 1. Upon successful completion of the online portion, including the written exam, students receive a Part 1 certificate of completion, which must be presented for parts 2 and 3.

• Part 2*, a hands-on skills practice session with an AHA ACLS Instructor or using a voice-assisted manikin (VAM) system

• Part 3*, a skills test with an AHA ACLS Instructor or using a VAM system
*Parts 2 and 3 should be completed in one “skills practice and testing” hour.
