The Call Of The Khokkosh By Biswapriya Purkayastha: A Pleasing Plunge Into The Realm Of Fantasy

Suspended between the real world of human beings and the fantastic world of the demons there dwells the Khokkosh in a far away land. Biswapriya Purkayastha brings back this neglected and almost forgotten world to his little readers.

Aug. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- There is a part of the world that humans have chosen to forget, inhabited by the Khokkosh who maintain an uneasy peace between the human race on the one hand, and the Demons who had once waged a war on humanity. Demons are the eternal enemy of mankind and also of the khokkoshes.

The novel also focuses on the social integration and the behavioral patterns of the khokkosh. The khokkosh, like human-beings have a well knit society. The khokkosh characters have very subtly been depicted by the author. There are good and evil khokkoshes and khokkoshes with shades of grey. The equilibrium of all the three worlds is maintained very sensitively. Any disturbance in any world sends an upheaval in the other worlds.

In such a crucial stage a human woman named Conchita steps into the khokkosh world to seek diamonds which are found in abundance in the volcanic hillside of the khokkosh land. The khokkoshes are the guardians of the diamonds and are very protective about there assets.  A young Khokkosh, Kak, finds Conchita and falls in love with her. He takes her as his wife in order to protect her from the wrath of the others of his race.

In the close-knit Khokkosh world, the arrival of a human has caused great turbulence in a time when the Khokkoshes are already bothered about the safety of the khokkosh –land. Someone has infiltrated the khokkosh security and stolen a giant yellow diamond, a religious symbol to the people there. The prime suspects are the demons who are always keen to trouble the khokkosh-land. Kak, Conchita and another Khokkosh set out into the Demon land to try to recover the diamond. The tension in the novel mounts as we trace the adventure of Kak and Conchita. Will they succeed? Or will the Demons win?
In his second novel, Biswapriya Purkayastha succeeds in creating a turgid suspense to the last syllable. Besides providing food for imagination, the novel can cause adrenaline surge not only in children but also in adults. If we can just suspend the faculty of disbelief as we go through the novel we will find the novel to be one of the best read in recent time.
