Acts unveiled for Swansea's World Party

Aug. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- VISITORS to a hit Swansea event later this month will be transported to Ireland and the Deep South.

Irish group the Porter Boys and American country band Ponchartrain are the first acts to have been confirmed for World Party at Museum Park in the city centre on Saturday August 27.

The Porter Boys will feature harmony vocals along with guitar, banjo, fiddle and penny whistle. Some of the more famous tunes the band will play include Wild Rover and Black Velvet Band.

Ponchartrain are named after a lake in Louisiana and will feature a mix of vocals, fiddle, accordion, guitar and double bass.

A number of community groups from across the globe will also be represented off-stage at the event. They will include the Bangladeshi Integration Group, Swansea Chinese Centre and the Arab and Muslim communities.

The international groups will share insights into their heritage through interactive workshops, music and dance. Traditional clothing, crafts and food will also be available.

Frances Jenkins, Swansea Council's Strategic Manager for Tourism, Marketing and Events, said: "World Party is a great opportunity to showcase Swansea's rich cultural diversity. It's also an opportunity for people to experience a whole host of international traditions and cultures all in one place."

Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: "We're doing all we can to arrange as many events as possible in the city centre area. They not only cater for all tastes and ages in Swansea but they also give a boost to traders and attract footfall during these difficult economic times."

World Party is part of Swansea Council's Swansea Bay Summer Festival.
